Born and raised in Marshfield, WI - 4th oldest of 9 children. My mother died of cancer when I was 11, and so I was raised by an Aunt and Uncle who happened to own a tavern. I tended bar at the age of 11. I spent four years in the Air Force, one year in Viet Nam. I was ordained a Catholic priest in 1966, served in different parishes, and was family life director for the diocese of La Crosse, WI. I married Rosemary in 1988. Rosemary is a Massage Therapist with a business in the home. I have been doing Individual and Marriage Counseling since 1973. I worked half-time for the University of Minnesota Medical Center--Fairview, and half-time for Lutheran Social Services in Wisconsin. I am now retired.

Sr. Marilyn Wuster, SSND- Marriage, The Committed Conspiracy

MARRIAGE: THE COMMITTED CONSPIRACY

In Genesis 2: 7, our Hebrew-Christian stories of faith, we read: “the Source of all Life formed the h’dama (earth creature) out of dust and blew into its nostrils the breath of life.” We, each of us, lives with the very Breath of God. When we enter relationship, we then “con-spire” (breathe together) to create a oneness.

Within each relationship there is need for self- and mutual- affirmation. The 90-90 of the ME weekend is designed to accent that process. Each transparent sharing of self subsequently enhances that experience.

Out of the couple unity, there is the call to care also for earth, for values, for others. And because we are frail and sometimes not at our best, that couple unity also requires compassion and forgiveness.

It is in committed conspiracy that men and women closely reflect the love of our Trinitarian God.

A member of the School Sisters of Notre Dame since 1956, Sister Marilyn devoted the first nineteen years of her religious life to teaching. Subsequently trained as a psychotherapist she began interventional and healing work in 1976 spending a number of years as resident therapist in the Personal Growth Center in Spokane, Washington, in the Living Resource Center at Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville, Il., and in the Psychology and Religion Program of the Behavioral Medicine Institute in St. Louis, Mo.

In 1981 Sister Marilyn completed additional training in spiritual direction and expanded her therapeutic work to include retreats and spiritual growth workshops. She has a private practice in retreat work and spiritual direction in St. Louis, Mo.
