The Mother Road in Missouri: The History of Route 66

This talk will trace the evolution of Route 66 in Missouri and its impact on the state.  Route 66 began as a simple, two-lane road joining St. Louis to southwest Missouri, but it soon became part of a major U.S. highway carrying traffic across the nation.  Route 66 was at its heyday in the 1950s, but the famous highway would soon fall into decline as it was replaced by Interstate 44.  Dr. Gubbels will trace the history of the famous roadway and lead a question/answer session about Route 66 and is impact on Missouri and the nation.
