Father Gabriel Calvo was born in Barcelona, Spain on February 21, 1927. He was ordained a priest on May 31, 1952. After years of work in the Spanish Family Movement, Father Calvo developed the idea of a weekend retreat for couples, which he called, "Encuentro Conyugal", or Marriage Encounter in English.
